One quick question - well 3 really: judging by the photos, it looks like you didn't fit the 'pan' under the intake trumpets. Hasegawa show this as an option in the instructions - does anyone know which races this would have been fitted? What was its purpose? And would it have been made of fibreglass?

Cheers
The pan under the intake trumpets was fibreglass although I left it off as I preferred the open look. I am unsure of exactly which GP's it was run in. Wish I could offer more info.

Aaron

Hi Seamus,
those "pans" were made of fiberglass and were used to allow air to easily enter into the trumpets. They were removable but if you would like to faithfully represent a REAL 312T you HAVE to put them on a model.
But it's always a modeler's choice what kind of model to build.
That said, WRCfan: you did a clean and nice work!
Going back to the technical stuff: the pans were first used on the Ferrari Flat12 engine back in 1970 on the 312P(B) prototype. All the P(B)s had the pans fitted.
Talking about Ferrari F1 cars they started using pans in the "Spazzaneve", on Summer '72 and kept using them until 1980 on the 312T5. But while until early 1979 on the "late specs-312T3" the pans were removable (as were on the '75-'76T), from the very first T4 until the end of 1980 they were integrated on the sidepods. Those sidepods were a piece of superb aerodynamical engineering being an intricated system of conducts for engine air intakes, hot air exits and Venturi tubes. Furia and his technicians did a great job on them.
Hope I helped solving the puzzle!
Cheers,
Gab
