1998 Cavalier: Where is the PCV Valve Located?
Does it even have one? I spent like 2 hours searching for it but couldn't come up with anything.
This is a 2.2 L Automatic 1998 Chevy Cavalier. The reason I would like to replace it is because the car has been stalling a lot whenever I'm stopped...I replaced the Air Filter and put in a bottle of Fuel Injector Cleaner in the gas tank...I replaced the sparks and the fuel filter last year. I'm hoping it's the PCV valve but can't locate it!! Any help will be greatly appreciated! c z |

Re: 1998 Cavalier: Where is the PCV Valve Located?
Thanks! You know, I have this manual so I looked for it where the manual says it's suppoused to be...still couldn't find anything!!!
Any other ideas?! The same manual says that after 1998, 2.2L cavaliers didn't have a PCV valve but something else?!?Anyone with a 1998 cavalier who can confirm/deny this? |

Re: 1998 Cavalier: Where is the PCV Valve Located?
well ill be darned, in that first picture, in the upper left corner you see your power steering resivoir, i just went and looked under the hood of my 98 2.2, right by the power steering resivoir and it doesnt look like that picture, so the book you have might be right, we'll have to wait for someone else to comment on this.....

Re: 1998 Cavalier: Where is the PCV Valve Located?
well i just looked in my manual again and found something new, right above that illustration it says in parentheses "1998 and later 2.2L ohv engines are equipped with an oil/air separator located inside the valve rocker arm cover that requires no maintenance" so thats probably not your problem

Re: 1998 Cavalier: Where is the PCV Valve Located?
Yea we don't have PCVs. I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier LS 2.2L. Supposedly we don't have an EGR valve either which I thought was strange but I haven't tried looking into yet. The PCV I have looked into though and we definitely don't have it. Have you noticed a low idling speed before it stalls or any other symptoms, check engine light? There are speed sensors that may not be sending the right information. That however would activate a lot of issues, so if you're not noticing multiple issues, it could be something else. Hints of it being the VSS would be the speedometer/possible issues with idling or transmission is not reacting well. If you give some more information about any other symptoms, folks can post on the forum to give you better results. This was the only thing that came to mind.
