Re: all bolts on my exhaust are seized.....

if they are studs with nuts (which i think they are)you can heat the nut with a torch.

if they are bolts you will probably have to snap the rest off and hope only the top brakes off , heat the manifold flange, or torch off the head of the bolt

once you snap of remove the rest, hopefully they didn't snap flush with the manifold.

if there is some stud sticking out you can grab it with vise gripps and twist it out or get a stud remover you will probably have to heat the manifold flange to get them out.

if they are flush with the manifold flange you will have to drill and try some easy outs or drill and tap.

if you are lucky and get them all out you should run a tap in the holes to clean up the threads and blow out the shavings before putting in new studs.

good luck i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Re: all bolts on my exhaust are seized.....

Heat the bolt/nut with a torch (propane is great). Make it good and hot then spray a good wash of lube, WD40 works pretty good, over the hot nut or bolt to cool it down. If you've ever soldered copper pipe together then you know that the melted solder wicks up the pipe joint. In essence that's what's happening here with the penetrating oil. It doesn't always break the rust weld but it often helps a lot.

Re: all bolts on my exhaust are seized.....

It's probably best to break loose exhaust manifold bolts with the engine hot, and take out when cool.
Like braking loose lug nuts before jacking up car.

Caution - Very hot, and use gloves.

Re: all bolts on my exhaust are seized.....

People, this thread is waaaaay old. I'm sure this guy hasn't been driving around for 8 years with two snapped off exhaust bolts waiting for your answer. While your answers may be relevant, they are not timely. In the future, please consider this before responding. Thanks.

Re: all bolts on my exhaust are seized.....

The last time we had that kinda problem is with a cast iron head.

It's probably best to remove the header pipe at the exhaust manifold, before Head or engine removal.
1) Once the head is off, use liquid wrench + impact tool for an easy removal.

Re: all bolts on my exhaust are seized.....

If the bolt breaks off into the head, weld a flat washer onto the stud, weld a nut onto the washer, and try again.

This is an old Thread, but we got 2-bolts broken in a thermostat housing.
We might just drill out the bolts + use new stainless steel lock nuts + bolts for replacement.
