overheating only when in idle.

well i have this overheating problem while in idle. i can drive it anywhere but if i sit to long in traffic it overheats. so i checked all fuses that may be a problem. i changed the thermostat. however it blows good heat in the vehicle. i also changed the fan relay thats under the passenger headlamp. so i came to the conclusion it was the fan motor. i pulled it out and ran jumper wire from fan to battery. and the darn fan motor still works! im happy to know it works but where else could the problem be?

Re: overheating only when in idle.

1) What kinda fan, or fan clutch is being used?
2) Is there any road litter, bugs, or leafs blocking the air flow in front of radiator or air conditioning condenser?
3) Is there a shortage of coolant?

Make sure your fans are working proper when the air-cond is on.

Re: overheating only when in idle.

its a electric fan.as for being filthy coil fins, its rather clean.coolant is up. its just not turning. i let it idle and watch for the fan to kick on while the hood is open and monitoring the heat gauge. i turn on the a/c to see if the fan comes on...and nothing. the fan is just not coming on. im stumped

Re: overheating only when in idle.

That's a problem, the fans should turn on with AC.

Suspect a bad fan control module, relay, or sending unit.

What <year> <make> <model>

Caution - Don't run AC until fixed, and watch temp gauge,
If temp raise's turn Heat on high max.

Re: overheating only when in idle.

Just to sum it all up. I got the problem solved. After hours of testing the electrical wires and hardnesses. I got tired and took back the brand spanking new fan relay...exchanged it. Replaced new part with a new part and BAM!!!! It worked. The first new part was faulty. Imagine that!!! Chow!!! VrROoOomMm
