99 Alero 3.4 GLS Fuel Lines and Sending Unit

Hi,

I like my mechanic, but they wanted $1400.00 to replace the lines and the pump/sending unit. So, I'm taking on the project.

Attached is pic of what I'm looking at. So, far I'm working on draining the tank. I'm trying to do it of the return line as suggested in the manual.

Haven't had much luch though. Going to try a drill pump as seen on Youtube.

More as the project progresses.

That does sound steep.....

This a northeast car? Sure looks it from the pix....your brake line is not looking too good either.......looks like you are going to have a possible problem disconnecting those lines out of the tank.....and those lines after the tank don't look too healthy, either....

Reason for replacing the pump?

Hi,

The pump hose ends are shot. Is there a way to just to the hose ends out of the tank?

I've been working on it for a few days an will try to post some of the video on Youtube.

Well, looking at the video, you have a bad case of rustosis......like I said, not uncommon for a car, especially one that is exposed to road salt, like in my northeast area......

The lines that come out of the tank are part of the fuel pump assembly......that can cost 300-500 dollars, depending on where you get it.......the problem is, the lines that come after that.......they look just as bad, and that's where the cost is going to come in......chances are they may have to be replaced all the way back to the engine......it's like a domino effect.....you touch a line and it flexes inches to feet away, and causes a leak......and like I said, your brake lines look like they are ready to go also......this can start to get pretty costly......
