Uhm, What should I do?

I purchased a 1996 Chevy Blazer as my first car. I had a lot of work done to it to make up for the lack of care the previous owner showed it. I've already invested quite a lot into it but it just jumped time and the transmission started slipping. Is this honestly a car worth marrying and fixing all of its flaws? Or should I kick it to the curb and get something newer with less problems?

What's the mileage and condition of the truck overall? If it was your first vehicle it might be worth hanging onto it. If it's literally falling apart at the seams then maybe it's time to let it go. A '96 is starting to get pretty old, especially if you're in the salt belt. However, these trucks seem to go forever if you take care of them and parts are relatively cheap. Don't think a new(er) vehicle will be without problems as well; I just dropped $600 on a no-start problem on a 2008 Jeep... the 2001 Blazer I picked up a year ago has cost me $1000 so far, including the purchase price, taxes, and licencing

It has about 126xxx miles. Cosmetically the car is in really good condition...especially given how old it is. Mechanically, it's not too hot. lol. the transmission is beginning to slip and I already know that's going to be expensive. Like it says up here it also just skipped time. As far as I know thats all thats wrong with it now. I cleaned up under the hood, new hoses, new heater core, a whole lot of new parts already put in.

since this vehicle is from the hot AZ desert region , the cooling system would need be properly repaired. if the cooling system has corrosion this should be acid flushed and the proper coolant installed. I believe your 1996 should have had dexcool GM approved coolant in it. if this is not in it , and someone mixed different coolants with the DEXCOOL you can get issues with the engine / transmission running too hot.

the transmission if slipping should be repaired soon . if you continue to operate with this slippage, the transmission will cost much more to repair. in your climate this fluid needs replacing every couple of years . I would use dexron VI or mobil synthetic fluid only as these can handle the higher temps.

installing a transmission cooler external is also recommended to help reduce excessive heat. 110 deg f you need all the cooling possible.

replace thermostat and coolant pressure cap.

NEVER USE TAP WATER IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM , ONLY USE DISTILLED WATER >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
