2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Service help

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP that has some service that needs to be done. I need to replace the Throttle position sensor, EGR valve, and the #3 Fuel injector. The problem is that I do not know where any of them are located. I just need a diagram showing where they are or a complete discription, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Just curious, why do they need to be replaced.....kind of unusual to have to replace all three at once.....

This a 3.8, non-SC?

A friend of mine plugged a code reader in and it ran multiple codes such as P0121, P0203, P0303, and he also said the EGR valve may need to be replaced. It's a 3.8L Supercharged.

Don't replace the EGR valve, it's an expensive component and without proper diagnostic you can end up wasting your money.

Before you replace any parts, how's the battery. A bad one can cause weird things with sensors. If you have a digital multimeter, measure DC voltage across both terminals and you should see around 12.6 volts. If it's too low (less than 12), then you need a new battery first.

The TPS is located at the side of the throttle body, just after the plastic intake tube running from the airbox and has a 3 terminal connector on it. Make sure to use the proper phillips head, a suitable socket and a RATCHET rather than a regular screwdriver as this can, sometimes, strip the head on each bolt. You might want to use some soft(green) or medium(blue) threadlocker on the bolts.

The injectors are on top of the heads and there are 3 injectors at each side (front and rear of engine compartment). They have a yellow ring on them and a 2 terminal connector. First make sure the wiring is OK by disconnecting one at a time and measuring DC voltage between each terminal and a good ground; you should see around 12 volts (or battery voltage) with key on and engine off (KOEO).

X2 on the EGR valve..VERY costly to replace. I was throwing a code for Mine about three years back and since it's very easy to locate and remove, I removed it, cleaned the pintle with carb cleaner and used a wire brush, toothbrush or pipe cleaner to clean off the carbon from the metal exhaust gas return tube. Installed and have never had the code come up again so far, and it's the original EGR on my 97 3800.

I haven't replaced the throttle position sensor yet since I don' t have the exact equipment yet, but where is the EGR located (and what it looks like) so I may clean it? By the way everybody's help has helped me out a lot! I appreciate it due to the fact that I have NO money. I may not know my way around an engine but I can figure things out if they are shown to me. THANKS a bunck so far to all of you! I will probibly have more questions later since it's an old car.

The EGR valve is on top of the engine at the back on the driver's side. You can see it just before the transmission dipstick in the following link (the cylindrical shaped thing with a connector on top).

I'm not sure, but you might want to ask at the autoparts store to see if it needs a gasket, just to prevent you from having to run to get one.

Sorry it's been a while but I've been way too busy. Ok, so I've looked further into my issue. It seems that part of my air intake tube was melted (about a qaurter a fingers width) and my engine was getting some straight air into it (non filtered). I could only imagine what that was doing to my engine and my air sensor's. So I went to the junk yard and picked up a air intake tube. My issue now is that the sensor seems as if it wont come out. Do I need a special tool so I can change out the air sensor to put in the new (used) air intake tube? By the way..... YES I diagnosed the problem TECHII, hence why I am asking these questions.


F.Y.I - All is good with the engine (as far I know) it seemed as if the previous owner did something stupid to have that part melt. The air filter is clean (K&N air intake). I cleaned it myself.

Sorry, but based on everything you have stated thus far, I have my doubts.....replacing parts based on the name of the code is not diagnosing....thinking of replacing an EGR because a friend recommended it? Not once have you posted a symptom or problem with the vehicle...

As for K&N filters, there have been TSB's out there not to use them, because the oil in them tend to foul the MAF's....
