I have a 1996 S10 with 187,000 miles on it. I have been experiencing lately an issue and not sure what might be the cause.
When I turn my key to the "run" position (before starting) is where the issue takes place. Normally when I turn the key to this position I get all gauge functions including the gauge indicator lights coming on. I then can start the truck. Lately when I put the key in the run position there are no gauge functions or lights and the truck will crank but will not fire. This is an intermittent problem and I am wondering if there is a relay that is going bad or something else going on. The following items were replaced recently for one reason or another. Timing chain, timing tensioner, #1 injector, all 4 intake valves, ignition coils, plugs, wires.... |

Re: 96 S10 Ignition/Starting Issue
Does sound like a bad switch. Try doing a search in this forum for ignition switch for details on which wires to check for power.

Hello. I have a '95 2.2L S10 that is exhibiting exactly the same symptoms as yours. Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Thanks

Re: 96 S10 Ignition/Starting Issue
That was the only time the guy came to the forum. Has not been back after that. Most of the time it is the ignition switch.

Re: 96 S10 Ignition/Starting Issue
Thanks for your post. I have done a bunch of googling and have decided that the switch is indeed the culprit. At least I hope so as I have just ordered one. I will post what I find so others will know. Cheers!
