Re: Worth buying? 1984 Camaro
I would look up the car's value on vehix.com, edmunds.com and kbb.com to get a 3-way comparison of what the car's real worth is. None of the audio equipment really increases the value of the car... this car is almost as old as me - and I'm OLD. I'm guessing it's not worth $1000, but that will be largely dependent on your location. If you really want this car, get it checked out by a legit mechanic (unless you're highly mechanical and have the means to look it over in depth).
Regardless, let us know what you decide!

Re: Worth buying? 1984 Camaro
You are at the absolute bottom-end for a drivable car. Any $1000 car will not be great. Anticipate some problems and likely some repairs the car will need.
Frankly, at that budget , just look around for the best-condition car you can find, regardless of make or model. You might find that Grandma's old Tempo may be a better bet than this car. 200k miles is a lot for any car. You may have some nasty surprises, such as worn steering rack, worn ball joints, struts etc. Give this car a close look. Check all sterring, suspension, brakes, tires etc for wear. Look closely for rust. If the car is reasonably rust free, and runs and drives well, $1000 is worth it. As noted above, get a mechanic to check it out. If it needs much work, don't buy it. Generally these cars are pretty reliable and straightforward-enough that a skilled owner can do many repairs themselves. Again, rust is the big issue. The automatic transmissions sometimes fail if the car is driven hard (the ring gears like to break). Some of the body and interior hardware is a bit fragile. The doors are frameless, so worn, sagging hinges and/or bad door seals make for annoying air leaks past the windows. |

Re: Worth buying? 1984 Camaro
No a car like that can have many problems and you don't want to buy a car that you cant drive because of problems. If you want a camaro with that body style in that year or around that year then look on craigslist or bay for one that you can compare it to. If i were you i would take a look and look at certain spots in the car. Look under the driver and passenger floor mats in the wheel wells and in the trunk if there are any holes you don't want it. If it runs and you can have a mechanic look at it to make sure its not going to die in a couple days. I wouldn't buy it but if it runs and is what you want go for it.
