overheating
I have a 1997 chrysler lhs that is over heating it is pushing antifreeze out the overfill hose can anyone help I had the water pump replaced about 2 months ago

Time to replace the thermostat would be the cheapest fix, but not necessarily the required cure. May need to run a pressure test and make sure the cooling system is up to snuff. This may also uncover a possible head/head gasket problem. What engine class and gauge readings when this occurs?

I already replaced the thermostat. How or where can I get a pressure test done? It is a 3.5L and the guage only goes up if you are driving when it runs out of antifreeze.

Both independent garages as well as dealers can run a pressure test on your vehicle. The test of the cooling system will usually uncover any weakness in this area, as well as possibly identifying a head problem. This test should be done along with a compression test of the cylinders. Is there any oil in the antifreeze or is the oil foamy-looking on the dipstick? Either is indicative of a gasket or head, or even a block problem. Get cracking and get checking. There's more to this than meets the eye.

I also own a 97 Lhs having an overheating problem. I dont think its a head problem, When I first noticed the issue I assumed it was just low on coolent. so i filled it up and went on my way. Half way to my destination I notice it was still over heating. when I got off of the freeway i was pulled over to the side of the road checking under the hood and i noticed that the coolent reserve was empty again. I checked the Tstat and it was open so I doubt that was my issue what you do think???

Leaking water pump? Check for wetness at the bottom of the timing belt case.

old thread but common problem--I took the intake manifold off my 3.5 -94 vision and the water ports in the head-to-manifold gasket plane was leaking- there are 2 L shaped water ports that leak and corrode the manifold bolts to the breaking off point-- the re-sealing issue is the culprit-and there's an o-ring behind the water pump that fails too. it has been difficult in the past to diagnose, but this is the worst of the gen one leaks.
the two manifold bolts that break are at least protruding an inch, so a nut can be welded on it and worked out. replacing the front shaft seals [crank/cams] is another difficulty that is needed in time. |
