Garage door opener

Hi all,
I have just purchased a 2001 LS, and it did not come with an owners manual. Can anyone tell me how to program the universal garage door opener? Thanks

Re: Garage door opener

Welcome to AF.

Here's what I've read off the www.llsoc.com board:

Step 1: Hold both outside buttons at the same time untill the red light begins to flash.

Release both buttons at the same time.

Step 2: Hold your hand-held transmitter between 2-5" from the visor buttons while keeping the red light in view.

Press both the hand-held transmitter button and the HomeLink visor button at the same time.

The light will flash slowly at first, then rapidly. When it starts flashing rapidly, release both bottons.

Repeat for the other 2 buttons .

How do you like your LS so far?

Hey merc,
Thanks for the info. It worked perfectly. Had the LS for about a week now (it's actually my wifes car). We both really like it so far. There are a few minor things I have to work out, but it's still under warranty for another year so there shouldn't be any problems. Traded in a 97 Tauras SHO for the LS and my wife loves it. I drive a 98 Expedition and a 03 Mustang Mach 1. What year is your XR-7? I used to have a 87 back in the day. nice cars. Thanks again.

If you would like to get a copy of the owners manual you can go to www.llsoc.com and register to their site then click the resources link. They have it there in .pdf format, also nice to have if you dont feel like running out in the cold to look something up.

Re: Garage door opener

Exactly - I don't have the luxury of a garage, and am way to lazy to get all that clothing on just to get my manual. Should keep in in the house where I use it most .

Hey, looks like you're the typical Ford lover like me, working up through the models.

My XR7 is a 92, has the 5.0 HO in it, which is getting ripped out for a 351 stroked to 408ci. I agree with you, IMHO, the Cougar/Tbird are really just a more luxurious Mustang. You get almost as much performance, but much more creature comforts - which I'm a sucker for.

Glad I could be of service, enjoy that LS of yours (or your wife's ). BTW - Mach 1 Mustang - Sweet!!!

Re: Garage door opener

I have a 2001 Lincoln LS, same deal, no manual. I must be missing something in your instructions as I have tried this repeatedly. Just one question to clarify, when you press both the hand held transmitter button and the Homelink Visor button (this is the one with the house icon, correct?), the side buttons are not pushed yet, just the middle one, along with the garage door opener itself. Then, it's off to doing the other (outside) buttons. Please don't get me wrong, I ususally don't have too much trouble with my car as I did my own calipers, added window tint, ventashades, made my own "eyebrows" for my headlights, custom banner, K & N filter, cold air intake, etc. I am not sure why the problem with just a lil garage door programming....UGHHHHHHHHHH

Re: Garage door opener

All three buttons are Homelink programmable, ie: you can program up to 3 openers. You press and hold the two outside buttons for approximately 20 seconds until the light starts to flash. While holding the garage door opener remote to be programmed near the Homelink unit, you press the remote button and whichever of the three Homelink buttons you wish to program at the same time and hold until the light blinks rapidly.

If you have a code hopping opener, such as the "Secure..." Chamberlain or Craftsman, then you will next need to program the Homelink system to the opener using the instructions for the opener. Pull the car all the way in to the garage first. Usually this entails pressing the "Learn" button on the opener itself, then within 20 seconds or so you press the programmed Homelink button. This will train the opener to recognize the Homelink system of your LS.

Hopefully you still have the instructions for your garage door opener.
