Is my trans about to go???
Hey guys,
I've got a '96 Roadmaster LT1 Wagon. It's got 202,000 miles on the clock and running stronger than ever. My mechanic says that with this sort of mileage, the transmission is living on borrowed time. Is this true? I've noticed no shudder or anything when driving, trans fluid is clean and clear and been changed regularly. What do y'all think? Thanks, AT |

Re: Is my trans about to go???
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
No one can predict how long a tranny will last......depends on mileage, maintenance, and if the tranny was ever abused(towing, hilly terrain, bad driving habits, etc.).....and luck! |

Re: Is my trans about to go???
I agree. A well-designed and well maintained automatic will last a long, long time, especially with lots of highway driving.
What is your mechanic suggesting? A pre-emptive rebuild just to ward-off future trouble? Thats simply not reasonable if the transmission works well at present. |

Howard Johnson is right about Emil Johnson being right. Don't open a can of worms that you can't recan. Drop the pan and change the pickup filter and oil and forget it. If the oil pan reveals something foul, look further. Otherwise, just drive normally.
