RIP: Whitney Houston

I did not expect Whitney to pass on today at 48.I had great respect for her musical abilities and her competence as an actress.
Sure her drug use and related decline came across as sad and wasteful, but her career seemed to be improving recently, albeit incrementally. Very sad to see.

Re: RIP: Whitney Houston

It came as a complete surprise to me since I didn't know who she was. My wife tried to fill me in on all that she was but it's still a blank to me, I have no knowledge of why she is a celebrity or of any reason why to celebrate her. A lot like my knowledge of the Kardashians, is there any real real reason to celebrate them?

Re: RIP: Whitney Houston

I grew up listening to "Whitney baby" as my dad affectionately called her. Unreal to think how young she was firstly, and secondly to think of all the life she had in those 48 years. A real musical legend gone.

Re: RIP: Whitney Houston

Its always sad when anyone ruins their life with drug addiction as Whitney arguably did. Even sadder when the life ruined is one filled with so much talent and proven ability to captivate hearts and minds with only a voice.

Anyone who doesn't know of Whitney Houston might recognize her for her performance of "Always Love You" from the Bodyguard soundtrack. Definitely a great voice. Definitely a life ended too soon.

I might have some contempt for entertainers as celebrities when there are truly brilliant, worthy people working in relative obscurity in the sciences. If I were king of the world, my celebrities would be the worlds top astronomers, biologists, physicians and physicists.

However, in the real world, entertainers and sports figures rule. At least we can celebrate the talented celebrities, and leave the useless, but well-connected Kardashians and Hiltons in the trash-heap of history.

Sadly the most useless of celebrities seem to be way too concerned with maintaining their outward appearance to do us all the favor of overdosing and removing their worthless beings from our lives
