97 blazer in tank fuel pump

Thru several checks I know I need to replace my in-the-tank fuel pump. Is there a way to go from the top and get to the pump in the tank? I heard of folks cutting thru the sheet metal to get to the pump. Sounds like a great idea and a helluva short cut, but where do you know where to cut. Constructive comments needed...

Thanks All

It's a 4 door S-15 Blazer. I don't understand "moving the tank". Please explain.

Thanks

Re: 97 blazer in tank fuel pump

It's best to remove the tank when replacing the pump. The pump does not come straight out when removing, you need to jockey it a bit to get the float arm out without damaging it. Be very careful of the vent line fitting on the top corner of the tank. It's very fragile and breaks easily if you're not careful when dropping the tank. Don't waste your time or money on aftermarket pumps, use AC Delco or Delphi only. Far too many problems with aftermarket pumps.
