Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
Hello guys,
it has been quite a while since I last posted a WIP thread here at AF. Well, new year - new projects... This time: Aston Martin V12 Vantage 6.0 A beautiful model in it's own right, despite being made from metal. Metal? Yeah right! It is the new Welly 1:24 model that has been released recently. The body is cast so thin, the model doesn't weigh more than a full detail plastic or resin car. No visible mold lines, the paint polished by hand. I found residue and fibers on the rear diffusor. OK, first a few pics of the model before disassembling... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After taking it apart, I started with the engine, as one would with a plastic kit. Not much there, just a relief. But hey, a little bit of detail painting brings depth and makes it look more interesting. Notice that in the first picture, only the right half is painted to show the difference: ![]() And this is what it looks like 15 min later: ![]() Allright, with the engine done, it's time for every modelers favorite part: wheel selection ![]() Guys, you gotta help me out here. Let me know which set you prefer: Set 1: ScaleProduction BBS LeMans 18" ![]() Set 2: Tamiya BBS from Porsche 993 GT2 17" ![]() Set 3: ScaleProduction OZ GT3 18" ![]() Set 4: ScaleProduction BBS GT3 18" ![]() Set 5: ScaleProduction Rinspeed 20" ![]() Set 6: some resin wheels from the parts box, no idea where they came from ![]() Thank you very much in advance. Next step: adding CF - lot's of it ![]() Regards, Sebastian |

Re: Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
I sure hope Welly brings those over to the US. They're getting better about bringing more 1/24 stuff here, much better in the past year, but I hope there isn't some licensing deal w/Aston Martin that makes them unobtanium in the US.
Honestly none of your potential new wheels really does it for me. So many custom wheels cheapen the look of a real car, just for the sake of being "different". The stock wheels look the best, maybe figure a way to put them inside a sleeve for a larger diameter and deeper offset? The BBS GT3's are the best, but look too bright. Some Hobby Design 20" BBS CH wheels would probably look great on it. How about some Ferrari 599 GTO wheels?

Re: Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
Nice upgrade to the engine. I thought of doing the same to my whole collection of diecasts, but there´s always a plastic 1/24 kit calling my attention :P
I have already vote for the wheels, but I´d keep the stocks, lowered of course.

I thing the stock wheels look great, just refinish them. Maybe Alclad Polished Aluminum faces with the rest of the wheel in gloss black.

OZ GT3 18" are good to my opinion, but they seem to be very shiny, maybe blacken them a little.

Not feeling any of those choices, stock rims are best so far IMO.

Re: Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
Whoa guys... I would have never thought that many of you would like the standard wheels best?! When I try them on a BMW E34 5-Series for example, they look like cheap aftermarket wheels from a discount store.
Oh well... gotta keep trying then. A friend suggested to use the polished BBS CH-R wheel inserts from SP. I think they look quite cool on the Vantage, what do you think?

Re: Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
That is much better. MUCH better.
![]() The inserts might even be better if they were a gloss shade of gray, somewhat darker than silver, lighter than gunmetal.

Re: Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
Stock wheels with diamond polished (chrome) faces and black elsewhere. The rest make the car look more tacky... IMHO, anyway...

Re: Aston Martin Vantage V12 6.0 | Detailed and Modified
I am quite partial to BBS LM's on almost anything.. in conjunction with heavy lowering and maybe some subtle ground effects (see my GT5 DB9 below) .........Preferably not with Bling chrome finish though.
![]() But I really like the CH-R's too. ![]() ![]() Regards, Dan

Dear Seb,
another nice way to pimp the Aston from Welly are the rims from Tamiya Aston.... ![]() My personal "Odda So"-Style ;-) Tschöö Dirk |
