Fair enough! You know, I remember seeing the one pictured (Atlanta, maybe?) or maybe in a magazine and I thought, "There's something not quite right about that car..." and now I know! It's because it's a "mutt"! That was done so well, really cool idea. Thanks for the link!

At roughly $95 shipped to the U.S. It had better be a good kit..think it cost more than the escort!!!

Re: Anyone seen/got the SimilR Ford GT GT1?

The Car is huge.... so big it seems too big.
so I checked for the dimensions on the Fia GT web Page -
FordGT Technical Specifications
Wheelbase 2768mm in 1/24 ?
Overall length 4800mm in 1/24 ?
Overall width 2130mm in 1/24 = 88,75mm

My SimilR Ford is 91 mm wide the Pescarolo only 84mm

It really does look to be worth it. It has a nice P/E set and templated CF decals. Plus, the doors are molded off, a rarity these days...

Re: Anyone seen/got the SimilR Ford GT GT1?

I saw the kit this weekend and I like it. Not sure if I will get one or not, but what I saw looked decent. If I could be sure all those separate body parts would fit (not to mention painting them all the same shade...painting it professionally won't be particularly easy). For a relative newcomer this kit is pretty nice, and detail underneath isn't as crazy as Fujimi Enthusiast kits.

Re: Anyone seen/got the SimilR Ford GT GT1?

Now that I've been working on mine a little bit I have to say I think some of the moldings are fairly soft and many of the parts are lacking positive locating pins. Instructions show them on the drawings but they don't always exist on the part. Without the locating pins there is a lot of "play" in the fit of parts that make me worry about how final assembly will come together.

Do a lot of test fitting would be my advice to anyone building one.

Re: Anyone seen/got the SimilR Ford GT GT1?

Instead of making all these fiddly opening bits that probably need to be glued shut to fit anyway, why doesn't SimilR just concentrate their efforts on making a less complicated kit with solid details and good fitment?

These soft details and ill fitting parts had put me off the Focus, and is now putting me off the GT, both subject matters I'm hugely interested in. I know it's a model kit and some assembly would be required, but at this price I expect the kit to at least fit properly out of the box without major rework.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. If SimilR made it a simple curbside like many of the resin kits, they'd be accused of making it a "toy", and the superdetailers would be unhappy. Since they went into fairly high detail and a myriad of smaller separate parts for the body, they'll appeal to the people that build high-detail "all-opened-up" replicas, but then they'll hear complaints from those who prefer the model look good all closed.

Assembly and painting of the kit will be a bit of a nightmare, but the people that buy & build most of these sorts of models seem to thrive on the high detail, so let's see how they turn out. I'd also have preferred a simpler body and assembly.

Count me as one vote for the all opened up look. I probably would've passed on a closed up model...but then again, I like to detail...

Re: Anyone seen/got the SimilR Ford GT GT1?

I wouldn't say Ford GT is a nightmare. It's not going to be a perfect fit but my experience working on it so far is that an experienced modeler should get a decent final result. It's just not going to be an easy build/paint project and I wouldn't recommend it for the inexperienced builder.

Eric, I just looked at your pics and your workspace is waaaaaaay to clean. I need to teach you some lessons on dirtying and cluttering up your workspace. I'm pretty good at that! j/k, of course! Nice pics!

All of us in ACME have been trying to do that for years....it hasn't worked, he's still Mr. Neat and we're still nuclear wasteland.

Yup. Can't say we haven't tried. I think his workbench is cleaner than the OR at any hospital

I can't help it... Lol. I keep my office at work the same way and people give me a hard time there too.
