Re: 00 disco leaking timing cover

I've done a bunch. Pretty simple, but have to remove the oil pan for access to the oil sump where it bolts into the bottom of the front cover, or you will crack the cover trying to remove it. Other than that the biggest pain is lining up the oil pump drive gear with the woodruff key on the crankshaft when you're putting it back together. Do the timing chain while you're in there too.

Re: 00 disco leaking timing cover

I have a company that sells used engines called affordableengine.com and we recently sold a rebuilt '03 Discovery engine to a guy in CA. The rebuilder told me some great info about timing chain covers that may help you out. He said when installing a used engine make sure you get the newly designed timing cover chain. I think he said in 2003 or 2004 they changed the design to make them fit better.

So, if you are changing the timing cover, make sure you get the updated one.
