Re: broken glove box hinge 2001

Okay, here's what I did:
< 1) purchased a new hinge..
2) removed old hinge from glove box door, inside - phillips screws
3) put new hinge onto door using pjillips screw from step 2..
4) closed glove box door into place..it will latch and hold while you swear at the rest..
5) on the lower hinge, you will see 2 nut headed bolts, one on left, one on right of hinge.. remove them and keep..
6) I used a 3/8" drill and bit and drilled out the flat headed screws.. they look like a torx, but don't be fooled.. they are rivets..
7) you will need to pull the carpeted lining down away from the plastic edging of the dash.. it is held on by plastic push in type pins.
8) pull down the broken hinge, and watch that you don't loose the threaded clip that slides over the edging where the screws go in.. they can grip the old hinge..
9) using 3/16 pop rivets, replace the new hinge onto the plastic dash.. in holes from step 6..
10) put the carpeted under cover back into place using the push plastic attachers, if you haven't screwed them up taking them out.. from step 7..
11) if the thread retainers have stayed in position, replace the 2 screws into the holes from step 5
12) open the glove box door and test the new hinge.. Hopefully it will reclose and latch in position..
13) clean up your drill shavings and stuff from the floor, you sweat will have evaporated from the heat of your cursing from twisting your body into ungodly positions to drill out the rivets..
14) lock the glove box and don't use again..
15) go into the house have a beer and be satisfied you beat the so called "Engineers" that designed this shitty arrangement..>

Re: broken glove box hinge 2001

I just put shoe goo in the hinge. seems to be working fine.

After about 1,000 cycles I may have to do it again!
