Wheel Bearing - Should it cost this much to fix?
I just brought my car in with a bad wheel bearing and traction control not working correctly. They said it would be $340 for part & labor. When I was blown away at $222 for a bearing they called back today and said they can do parts & labor at $217. To me, that still sounds high but I haven't brought my car to a mechanic for real work to be done since about the year 2000.
I decided to buy a part on eBay for $40 and do the work my self. Any input?

I agree with Max....
They had to diagnose it......0.5 Install.......1.0 total....1.5.....let's say $90/hr.....that's $135 for labor.....don't now how they can do it for $217, including tax.....also, do they GUARANTEE their work, parts and labor for at least one year? As for the Part, that's another ball game.....hub with ABS, OEM would be expensive(over $300)....Aftermarket, 150-200, depending on brand....now for the bad news, haven't had much luck with aftermarket....... Bearing for $40? Beware.....
