Transmission fluid flush

Hi,

My 2007 Uplander has 139k on it and I am wondering what is the typical km's one would or should have a transmission flush done?? I noticed that on first shift sometimes it takes a few more mseconds to shift than normal and I am starting to think it needs one...

GM powertrain engineers do not recommend trans flushes, long complicated explanation, but that's the story. The trans should have been serviced between 75-100k.

Drop the pan,,,,,,change the filter,,,,clean the magnet,,,,replace the pan,,,,re-fill with atf,,,,stuff the flush,,,save the$$$$$,,,life is good!!!!!

My transmission specialist (who knows GM 4T65E transmissions inside and out) recommends NOT to flush it. Simply change its ATF fluid and its filter. Let drain via natural gravity - NO flushing. Outward pressure (from presssurized flush) is very bad on these transmissions and its inner gaskets / seals - so I've been told.

Also... These 4T65E transmissions runs "hot" from factory. Yes. They are cool in the winter and on flat roads but up hills or under weight loads, this transmission model heats up fast. Too fast. With this in mind, do install an Aux ATF transmission cooler. Use LPD (Low Pressure Drop) design for attached 5,000 lb. trailer - even if you do NOT tow a trailer. Thanks for your replies, I haven't followed this up lately but for the past few days the trannie is working weird, this morning was the worst. At a red light and then stepped on it to leave but it took like 1 second before going into gear with a good thump at the same time... would a trans fluid filter change help for this? I sure hope so because I can't afford a trans job!!!

Suggestions / comments / experiences anyone?

No way.
About 90 K to late for that to help.
First check fluid level.
If fluid level is good.
Get it on a transmisson capable scanner and test transmisson for slippage and computer system and shift solenoids.
If it does not pass the test it is tme for reair work or another transmission depending on what the scanner says.

the transmissions need fluid replacing and filter servicing in most cases every 30-40,ooomiles.

since this is a 2007 you have the new dexronVI synthetic fluid. still however the pan/filter need cleaning/replacement..also make sure the magnet is cleaned and not thrown in the trash as most tranny shops do !

you may just have a filter in need of replacing .

these transmissions never power flush..

fluid exchange is a good idea but not using any higher than normal pressures used when the tranny operates.

basicly as the fluid comes out new fluid is added.this is much slower than POWER flushing which does lots of damage ..

Well that gives me some hope... i will try to find a good trans shop to do it and hopefully they will know the guidelines for my model... I would take it to the dealer but it must be an arm and a leg there and at the same time no garantee that they'll do it any better!!

Well, I have used the Wynn's transmission flush machine for years, and have never seen a problem from using it.....

Problem is, people have a problem with their transmission, and most techs "recommend" changing the fluid, and when it doesn't take care of the problem, sometimes the machine gets blamed.......but by then, the cow is already out of the barn....

the Wynn's TranServe® II+ Automatic Transmission Flush Machine provides what I stated earlier. as the old fluid comes out the new fluid goes in.


BUT THAT MEANS THEY MUST FIRST CLEAN THE TRANNY PAN AND REPLACE THE TRANNY FILTER !

Then the machine gets hooked up the the tranny cooler lines for FLUID EXCHANGE ...

this would require about 14-15 qts total of dexron VI..

this will add up to a good amount of cash.

much cheaper than a new/or half azzed rebuild.

You can expect to pay around 130.00. That should include 16qts of fluid, Dex VI may be a little more.

Dex IV is 6.00 a qt retail, 130 would be cheap at that rate.
