Bought a car, seems to have been wrecked but clean CarFax
I purchased a 2008 pontiac G6 about 2 months ago. Upon purchase I received that carfax which showed no damage had been done to the vehicle. But it did report that the car had previously been a rental car in Hawaii. The longer I've had the vehicle the more I've noticed about the car. It pulls really bad in the front, the bumper sits funny with the head lights, and hood doesn't seem to match the color of the bumper, and the center of the steering wheel seems different colors than the steering wheel itself. Not to mention the center (where the air bag is) doesn't sit completely in the center so it seems like it may have been replaced. We've had other problems such as the air conditioner leaked into our floor board in the back seat and soaked the carpet. We had that repaired. My boyfriend also feels that the transmission may be slipping. He feels it when he drives because it jerks and vibrates. Nothing HUGE but it is noticeable if you know what you're looking for. We plan to take it to a certified body mechanic and see if he feels it has been wrecked or damaged but I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem or can give us any pointers on what I need to do, who I need to talk to, and what I should say to the dealership and the finance company. I need to know what our rights are or if you can point me in the direction to look at something for this problem. Thanks
![]() Additional Details I am fully aware carfax is not perfect but I'm curious what I can do or who I should talk to about this. I'm paying $14,000 for a car that I feel has been previously wrecked that I was not aware of. |

Re: Bought a car, seems to have been wrecked but clean CarFax
I read your post a few times looking for an avenue but with the info you provided it looks like a dead end from my viewpoint, I hope someone else can provide a more positive answer.
1,,, The transaction is about 2 months old, a little late unless you can prove misrepresentation by the dealer 2,,, I assume you purchased the car in Alabama,,, a former rental car from Hawaii,,, right here let's forget 100% clean history report, a car can have a washed title through states that have lax titling and reinspection requirements. 3,,, You plan to take vehicle to a certified body mechanic,,, That I highly recommend prior to purchase of any used vehicle ,,, not after purchase. 4,,, There is nothing you can say to the finance company, they are not involved. Did you purchase a history report or did the dealer show you one ? I will be interested with a report from an independent inspection if that is in your plans do so prior to contact with dealer,,, from there I will know if dealer needs to be contacted.
