95 Windstar dies when put in drive
My Dad has a 95 windstar with 3.8 motor. Recently it dies every time it is put in drive. It feels something like if you were driving a standard and let off of the clutch too fast without accelerating.
If you start out in 1st or 2nd and then move the gears manually it works fine. O/D light blinks occasionally. I had him try to get codes pulled and the only ones that showed up were 0171, 0174, and 1407. I don't think these codes would cause his issue. Any help is much appreciated. |

Re: 95 Windstar dies when put in drive
I would have it checked out by a trusted mechanic.
It sounds like a issue with the transmission, the torque converter is supposed to permit slip in the system....and it sounds like you are not getting any/enough slip in the system when it goes into gear. The other thing that can cause stalling is a sticking Idle Air Control (IAC) valve on the top of the throttle body. However, I would expect it at other times as well.
