Re: problem with 01 cavalier overheating and started making high pitch squeal

I have a 00 Cavalier, I had similar issues... First I changed the thermosdat, and replaced the radiator cap. We did a pressure test to see if I was leaking and didnt find a leak. That helped for a few months, then I started losing antifreeze pretty fast. I never saw a leak, checked oil constantly and no antifreeze in the oil. After a few months of this I started seeing that it was leaking a little. It was coming from the water pump. Changed that last week, and now onto a new problem. Not leaking any antifreeze anymore, but my check engine light is on, and today when I was driving I noticed a high pitch whining noise... its the loudest when accelorating. I have no idea what it is yet, but am very scared it is my transmition. However it doesnt have any issues shifting. Good luck. I am kind of wishing I never bought a Cavalier. Its great to drive in the winter, but I am going out of my mind with this antifreeze thing myself. Oh and my heater works fine, and the floor is never wet.
