2001 continental jerking problem

I have a 2001 continental with 122k it has been jerking when you accelerate from a stop as well as it has cut off 3 or 4 times the check transmission light sometimes comes on. But sometimes the car drives just fine if you baby the car when accelerating no lights on or anything. took it to amacco transmissions they said it was the torque convertor bought the convertor about to have it put in. but i have seen some post about similar problems and one said that they replaced the convertor and it had no result so is there any other options to check that might be the problem before spending the 350 to have the convertor put in? One mechanic said it might be the tps sensor could that possible be it? appreciate any suggestions
