Referring back to lower oil pressure on 5-27-11, I suspected a clogged oil filter. I forgot that I had a FRAM tough guard filter installed. My oil pressure was at about 40-45lbs max prior.
I installed a new Royal Purple filter along with 10-40 synthetic oil, and cold start brought pressure to 60psi. Warm idle is at 30-35psi.(jrs3800 knows the stats). LMP is DEAD ON about NOT USING A FRAM OIL FILTER!! I will never use one again...KEV

Re: 3.8 GT low oil pressure on dash gauge
I told a friend recently.... If i catch you with a Fram oil filter on your car ever again I will kill you with my bare hands...
I have cut them open........ I wouldn't even use a Fram on my 46" riding mower... It gets Briggs & Stratton oil filters only... I love wix Filters for my 3800's.... I do recommend Wix and Puralator the most... In some cases I recommend the factory filter... |

Re: 3.8 GT low oil pressure on dash gauge
I bought a new tractor this year, and I use Royal Purple Max Cycle and K+N filter.
My car dropped over 25 degrees using Royal Purple and Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer over MObil 1. I will only use K+N, Mobil1, or Royal Purple oil filters. I believe their technology is fairly equal. Fram caused oil to pour on my driveway. I took it off, inspected it, and it did the same. A friend told me his buddy used a Kmart filter on his high performance Chevelle, I believe. It suck the material into the oil port, and that was the end...Cheers guys KEV

Re: 3.8 GT low oil pressure on dash gauge
When I installed a Fram filter on my '93 TS years ago, it wouid drop oil pressure into the red after 2 weeks. NOtice the oil pressure sensor is AFTER the filter.
A friend had installed a FRAM filter on his chevy truck V8 and after 2 weeks, the indicated oil pressure went up to abnormal levels: the pressure sensor is BEFORE the filter and the filter blockage overloaded the oil pump. I told him to switch to a DELCO filter and all went back to normal. FRAM is a no-no for me. Period.

I installed a new oil pressure sensor - same reading.
Our filter is a Mann filter, the only one you can find everywhere in Europe. I will order an ACDelco/Wix filter ASAP. LMP, any idea on which is better from these two? |

Re: 3.8 GT low oil pressure on dash gauge
Have only limited experience with Mann filters, we use some on forklifts at work, they do look like a quality filter. NAPA filters here in Canada are manufactured by WIX, otherwise AC Delco from dealer. Too bad, years ago Wal-Mart used to sell AC, but changed 5 or 6 years ago to Fram..sigh..
