Do you need a Magneifne filter on your transmssion?

Here's another example of why you may want to add a Magnefine filter to your transmission. This picture is from my wife's Merc Villager. It now has 129,000 miles and this filter went in at 90,000 miles. I always did an annual drain and fill and last year did the flush. All of the black on this paper towel is metallic particles that would otherwise be flowing through the transmission fluid. Its so abundant with metal that the magnet can pick up the paper towel. This can litterally save you from a ruined transmission. And keep in mind, all this was missed by the oil pan magnet.

i'm the 2nd owner of my 2002 model & from the color of the fluid on the dipstick, it's still looking "fresh" and not brown/ black color...

i'm going to do an annual fluid/ filter change from now on starting this spring + will look into that brand

PS: when you were doing your annual fluid changes, was the fluid color/smell the same as fresh fluid each time?

maybe just adding an additional magnet or two in the pan will help?

There are magnets in the transmission pan but there's no guarantee that the oil will flow by them and the metal bits will be attracted to it. It then keeps flowing through the transmission damaging the valve and clogging passages. This filter was doing what the factory stuff couldn't do.

My fluid always looked and smelled fresh. That's why I was shocked to see what Magnefine filter caught.
