Greasing and engine to protect it is a very old technique.
An exposed, unpainted cast iron block will rust very quickly, as will any other engine parts.

If you have ever worked on some older British cars, you soon realize that a good coating of oil and grease does the engine no harm.


The only real problem is it makes working on an engine harder.
A clean engine is always nicer, faster and easier to work on.

I found a local older time car wash for $1.50 of coin per wash cycle!
