injectors in 86 Ford ranger hard to remove
After 173K miles and having fixed everything else I still had a 2.9L V6 that would run smooth for a while then run into a rough spot. It keeps doing this so, on and off at random intervals. Sometimes it will almost quit, and has, but will always restart. I don't think its a valve or lifter, the mechanical part of the engise sems fine. It has always had synthetic oil in the crankcase. I figured I would go ahead and change the injectors, after that many miles. I got the intake off. The fuel rail bolts out, the injector clips out, and now I can move the whole fuel rail assembly around but it seems like it is really going to take some force to get them out. This is the first time I ever tried to replace injectors, has anyone else noticed this needing a lot of force? I figured I would take a break and ask before I actually break something.

Re: injectors in 86 Ford ranger hard to remove
I got them out. In case anyone else needs to know, after being in there for 25 years, they do take some force to get out. I used a small 8" pry bar and applied the force evenly and they came out. I also didn't want to break the plastic clips on the electrical connectors for the injectors, so a small screwdriver under each side with care will get them off also. I got a set of rebuilt injectors for $100 and if all goes well, I will post the link to the company. They are rebuilt but look new and they also look like a later design.
This is the first time I installed injectors, there is not much room at all to work in the valley of a 2.9L V6. It might actually easier to remove the bottom half of the intake manifold on one of these to do this job. The injector wiring is marked but make sure the tags didn't come off as another hint. Its tough to get the electrical connectors off without breaking them, so check what you are doing, I fogot about the clips for a minute and had the upper manifold sitting back in place for a few minutes. Its important to put the clips back on correctly so you don't have fuel leaks. After 173K miles, this sure helped to bring this V6 back to a smooth running engine. I read the rules and we are not allowed to put links as to where to buy products, so these were refurbished injectors I found by searching the net. Precision is part of the company name as a hint. They seem to do a good job and they were properly sealed up in a plastic package and the price was reasonable. As my first time with this, it was a bit tricky, but well worth it. You can also check your local desel shop for micro bath cleaning, new injector seals and flow testing.
