We're Australian - please help us!!

Hello. I'm writing this to hopefully put out there the plight of Australians when it comes to the Automotive industry.

Our Government is bent on it's feeble local car industry. We are locally manufacturing the 'Ford Falcon' and the 'Holden Commodore'. By world standards, these cars are over priced, and are of very poor quality. The result of this is that for these cars to have a chance on the local market, all imported cars are priced at ridiculous prices. This is done through duties, taxes, import tarriffs, and plain old price-fixing by the Australian government.

The result of this is that despite the equivalence of the US-AU dollar, we are on average paying double the price for a car than what a US citizen would pay.

A recent news article http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-new...ts=44#comments has been another kick in the guts to the average bloke. Our Fuel is laced so highly with tax (around $50c p/litre) that Australia IS SCARED of electric cars. In fact, Australia would have to be the most Anti-EV country on the planet.

PLEASE HELP US!!!

No, our fuel is $1.60 per litre. I was saying that at least 50c of that is tax.

But its the cars - not the fuel - that is the big issue I have..
