2001 dodge caravan motor removal
I am working on a 01 dodge caravan 3.3, how do you remove the motor, top or bottom? I thought there was plenty of room on the top with everything unbolted, but it will not slide far enough to the passenger side to get it out.
Thanks. |

Re: 2001 dodge caravan motor removal
Ok, the more I look at it, it has to come out the bottom, so I have 1 bell housing bolt back in to hold it together, I guess I have to pull ball joints and struts and brake lines, tie rods to be able to pull the axles out of the transmission to be able to lower it out the bottom. Or am I missing something? Seems like an awful lot to do for a 7 hour labor time.

Re: 2001 dodge caravan motor removal
Why are you pulling the struts out as well as the brakes? Same for the axles? Unbolt the subframe from the body, hang the calipers on the struts and everything should drop down on the subframe. I have a hard time believing it cannot be taken out through the top, I've not personally installed/removed one, but I have done engines on FWD cars with extremely tight engine bays and usually jacking up the transmission by the belllhousing will give the driveline enough angle to remove the engine out the top. Also, remove the balancer, that will give extra space.

Re: 2001 dodge caravan motor removal
I really thought it would of come out the top also I have done motors on several front wheel drive cars and I have always got it out the top. I hope someone can come buy that has done one and verify it has to come out the bottom.

Okay I was just going to post for anybody else that ever does one. They do come out the bottom motor and tranny they will not fit out the top.

Re: 2001 dodge caravan motor removal
My 3.3 from my 99 grand voyager came out of the top just fine after I removed the harmonic balancer. Of course I also had to remove the wiper cowl or whatever it is called.
