Interior lights only go off when ign. on!

Hey, I breezed the posts but didn't see my issue. Started yesterday my 97 Grand Limited, interior lights wont go off when I exit and hit the clicker button. The doors will lock , headlights go out, but horn doesnt beep , and interior lights stay on. They only go off if I turn the ignition on, with the door shut. Info center says all doors are closed. I tried each individually and all the switches signalling the info center operate fine. Could this be a body copntroller? or a door module? Thanks very much in advance.

Re: Interior lights only go off when ign. on!

Any solution found to this? I've recently started having the same problem on my '96 GC...

I enter the vehicle and close the door the overhead lights are on. (as I would expect)

Overhead lights turn off if I move the ignition to Acc or On mode, and when started.

Overhead lights automatically come on when I move the ignition to the Off or Lock positions, even before opening any door.

Have checked push button mode, and the slider switch on the panel, both are okay.

Anyone have details on how the interior lights are controlled? (The manual I have has no details on the wiring/switching for the interior lights...) This will drain out the battery overnight...I've pulled the Courtesy Lamps fuse in the short term to solve that issue...but that's rather crappy as I drive a lot in the dark this time of year...

Re: Interior lights only go off when ign. on!

This happened to me as well in my '01 GC. The first thing I would check is the wiring in the drivers door. It's inside a rubber boot/protector right next to your door hinge. The wires get flexed so much from opening and closing, that they'll eventually break or pinch. If you peel that rubber off you'll see all kinds of wires. Mine had a couple of wires that were pinched completely in two, and a couple had the wires showing. I repaired these, and now my lights go off. May not be your problem, but it's worth a shot.

bigkane - thanks for the input, I'll check into that when the weather improves a bit and I can take a look at that. Will report on findings.

Re: Interior lights only go off when ign. on!

Resolved my problem my re-soldering the slider switch points on the interior light control unit.

Everything works perfectly now.
