spark plugs

I am going to change the spark plugs. The front plugs are easy to see but the back plug are hard to see. Has anyone changed the plugs? I have a 2006 lacrosse with 100000 on it. What else needs checked on the ignition.

Re: spark plugs

Ok You people are not much help. I found some information that says to rock the motor forward, to access the back plugs. Have any of you changed the plugs? Can they be taken out from underneath the car?

Re: spark plugs

Alot of the slant V6 engines, the manual says to rock the engine forward. But I have done alot of them by simply removing the serpentine belt along with the alternator, if it is on top rear left, and can reach in that way.

Re: spark plugs

Remove the frt top motor mount bushings then you can pull the engine forward
about 2 inches. It is tight but you should be able to feel your way through changing the rear 3 plugs.

Re: spark plugs

I changed the spark plugs. This is a 2006 Lacrosse, with a 3.8 motor. The motor has two front motor mounts at the top. I decided to see if I could change the plugs and wires with out taking the mounts loose.
I took the schroud off the top of the motor,by taking out the oil fill spout the schroud comes right off. I could reach the back plugs from over the top of the motor. The plug wires are stuck on pretty good, twist the wire just above the metal shield on the plugs until you fill it break loose, then pull the wire off.
I changed one wire at a time, so I didn't switch a wire some place. It took about 2 hours.

Re: spark plugs

I changed the rear plugs the same way you did by going over the top of the engine. Yes the plugs were on really tight. Since I was also replacing the plug wires anyway I just cut each wire a few inches above the spark plug. I used a small vice grip and turned each wire until it came loose. One heck of a job but the DIY person can change their own plugs with maybe just few beat up knuckles.

Re: spark plugs

Good to hear you found a work around for loosening the engine mounts and glad you got them changed out.
