97 Grand prix gt

My airbag is fine, I had it tested at a shop. However my srs airbag light is on. How do I disable the light?

Re: SRS airbag light

No way via programming at the SRS SDM module that I know of but I guess you could remove the lamp after removing the IP Cluster.

And how would I do this? Also I have poor electronics (DIC goes bright to dim, etc..) Could this screw up my electrical system more???

Re: SRS airbag light

You mean getting the IP Cluster out to remove the lamp? First part is to remove the dash bezel. See link below for a general idea. You have to really pull on it without breaking it. There are several fasteners holding the bezel in. Then you can get to the IP Cluster.

Re: SRS airbag light

Remember if the light is on, chances are your airbag system is disabled. Thus if you get into an accident, the air bags may not deploy. If I were you, I'd bring it into the dealer and have it scanned with a tech 2 to see what SRS code is present.

Re: SRS airbag light

Airbags are overrated. I'd rather it if mine didn't work.

Like I said light is on. Does it need to be fixed to pass inspection in NY??

Re: SRS airbag light

For New York state the airbag light is checked during the inspection. However, it is not cause for rejection of the inspection. See link below.

Your vehicle's Air Bag Warning Lamp will be checked for proper operation. You will be informed if the vehicle's air bag warning lamp is on or is not working. This is an advisement only and not cause for rejection.

Re: SRS airbag light

Based on what I see it should pass. For example in Texas the airbag light being on will not cause a failure of state safety/emissions inspection either. This is true for most states except the moronic ones.

Whether your airbags work or not is a personal choice IMO. Also, since the airbag light is on meaning a DTC is probably stored in the SDM module airbag deployment will be inhibited.

If you pull the airbag light the most the inspector could tell you is you probably have a burn out lamp. Just to be sure send maxwedge a PM. He used to or still runs a state inspection shop in New York.
