Has the check engine light come on??? Go to a parts store light autozone or orielly's and get the code read, also look for pending codes. When has last tune up been done? Have you used any injector cleaner lately?? I have read most people say Chevron cleaner is the best. Has the upstream oxygen sensor ever been replaced?? How is the idle RPM, is it about 750 rpm? Have you cleaned the Mass AIr Flow sensor lately??

Another thing to look at is the camshaft sensor or optical sensor in the distributor. Take the distributor cap off, rotor and cover over the optical sensor and look for a brownish dust on it. Use compressed air and blow it off. IF there is any of this brownish dust check the distibutor shaft for looseness. bad bearing?

Re: 97 nissan quest the odd engine miss fire

have done tune up, oil change and run chevron hi test through it, not sure have no records on what was previously changed as to up stream oxy sensor, i have not cleaned mass flow air sensor Idle seams to be fine but not have actually connected a tach yet. Did look in cap today but did not remove the rotor will look at that tomorrow. Will also get actual injector cleaner and some thing to clean mass air flow sensor. Any suggestions what to use for the mass air flow sensor just some carb clean spray?

I have used carb cleaner and there is also a Mass Air Flow cleaner in can, I believe CRC makes it, maybe others as well. Here is a link all about MAF sensors, there is a section about cleaning>

Doesn't the Quest have a tach, my villagers do??

I would get codes read to see if there is any pending and actuall codes. Hopefully that will lead you to the missing clyinder. I am thinking it is a injector problem.

Re: 97 nissan quest the odd engine miss fire

You need a tune-up, you need new spark plugs and spark plug wires, for a 6 cylinder that will cost less than $30, $25 or less for a 4 cylinder, this is for parts and get someone to put them in. Also replace oil and filter, air filter and fuel filter.
