89 Dodge Dekota low end knock/oil pump!!!

Hey all....
Thanks for your time!!!

I have a 89 Dodge dekota with a low end knock....
The engine is a 3.9l
The engine has had a rebuild about 700-1000miles before the knock!
when i start the engine the oil pressure gauge stays at low or verry low when idling...
If I give it gas (AROUND 1500+ RPMs) The knock goes away and the engine sounds tip top but the oil gauge slowly jumps around between half way and low!!!!

The truck has set for at least a year since i got it..The knock is worse when I 1st start it!!!
After running for a bit its not as bad and it some times goes away!!!(FADES IN AND OUT)

when I put it in gear the knock is gone????

Can some one give me ideas on what is going on???
How do I change the oil pump????Do I have to pull the motor???
Can some one give me some steps???
Thanks God bless!!!

replacing the oil pump is not to hard to do, once you prop up the engine and remove the oil pan. I fear you have a bigger problem, i.e. the engine needs a rebuild. Your main bearings are what generate your oil pressure.

Re: 89 Dodge Dekota low end knock/oil pump!!!

Well the catch to this story is- The engine was fully rebuilt and the guy who worked on it said that at 500miles the engine needs to have everything re-torqued and oil changed....The people who had it before me did not do this...they said that one day it just started knocking!!!
