01 GP GT stuck in park

My wife's 01 GP GT keeps getting stuck in park and will not go into gear. The key comes out fine, and the car starts fine. There are brake lights and the shifter button can be depressed. When I depress the button, there is a click from under the steering column. After searching for awhile here, it sounds like either a fuse or a stuck/bad BTSI switch (which is under/part of the shifter if I am correct). Would this be correct? Any other thoughts? And is the BTSI a dealer only part? What is the part number? Thanks!!

Re: 01 GP GT stuck in park

You might try taking the console apart and cleaning the BTSI, as it's possible some sort of beverage was spilled down there causing our issue. You are correct in that the BTSI is not sold seperately and is part of the shifter which is dealer only. The shifter part numbers are 10323933 (w/leather shift knob) and 10323934 (exc leather shift knob). These parts were used from 00-03 in Grand Prix's, in case you wanted to search the salvage yards

Re: 01 GP GT stuck in park

Just an update. Took the shifter assembly apart and found that 3 out of 5 wires going into the BTSI were either loose or broke at the plug. Got a $1.30 plug from the local Pull a Part and it is working like it should again.

Nice job, and thanks for the follow up. It may help another member with a similar problem in the future doing a forum search.
