93 Lumina z34 RPM problem
hello, imma be honest i do not know anything about cars, i just know that my car is not suppose to be doing this..
Well the problem is that when i start my car it wants to go straight over 2RPMs(i think thats right) which makes the car very loud and when i go to switch gears it like gives my car like a 'kick' movement. as im driving around and stop at a Stop sign of a red light, i'll have my foot on the break and my car just wants to GO!... than when i let go of the break, i usually never have to press on that gas because it just wants to accelerate real fast. so basically i just want to know what i can do to try and fix this.. i really like this car, only 80k on it, i wish i took better care of it.. lesson learned buti want it to run like it did when i first got it, any advice would rock! THANKS! |

Check you throttle position sensor , sounds like it's bad ? If you don't know where to look , it's at the throttle body on engine where the cable from your gas peddle hooks up . Go to autozone ( or parts store of your choice ) and I'm sure they will show you where it is located . Does it have any " check engine " lights showing on your dash cluster ? They will do a free scan of your car to see if any codes are showing and can advise you to the parts you may need . Good luck and let us know what you find out !

Re: 93 Lumina z34 RPM problem
I had a high RPM at idle and also it did not want to shift gears when driving, I had it scanned at Advanced Auto and showed no codes. I Finlay replaced the Throttle Position Sensor and the car now runs like new.

Re: 93 Lumina z34 RPM problem
In addition to the throttle position sensor, check or replace the engine temperature sensor, the one that feeds the ECM ( engine control computer). If it is out of range, the computer will cause the engine to race, assuming a fast idle for a very cold outside temperature.
