replace the transfercase fluid tracII blue 2.5qts available at dealership ..carefully examine the drained fluid for metal particles..if found then your transfercase is going...drained flud should be a grayish blue if gray or black you got problems ..

Re: Mystery Vibration

I wanted to update this thread in hopes to help others. The vibration was in fact a bearing in the transfer case, which happened to be the furthest to the rear, near the rear drive shaft. There are a few inside. Vibrations have got to be the hardest issue to diagnos

It's not so much a noise as it is a vibration, first off. It took me a while to get to the bottom of it. I tried everything. Jacked both ends, each wheel etc. I then put it in nuetral, blocked the wheels and grabbed the rear drive shaft, after removing the front shaft to see if that did anything. Next to me truck was a friends 1500 just like mine. I noticed a considerable amount of slack when I grabbed and moved the drive shaft around. My friends pick up was snug and didn't move.

that is how I thought it would be found.drive shaft must be snug ..no lateral movements..

with the drive shaft removed you should be able to replace this worn bearing/bushing assy.

I don't think it will be that easy. It looks like the bearing is held in place on the inside of the case. There is a seal on the ouside. So if I'm taking the case apart, I'm going through it and replacing everything needed.
