Subaru WRX STi Progress

Picked this up at the hobby shop this week. They didn't have the R33, but i am going to order one off the internet.

~Shaved side markers
~Shaved down stubs for the wing
~O.Z 18" Rims off of my Wings West Accord. (Don't worry, i am ordering some better rims for that)
~Primer on
~To be painted blue

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

*******Whats the recomendation on primer coats? 3? 4? Also, do i have to do anything to the primer or can i just spray the paints on after the coats are done (and its dry)?*******

PMan, the rims are to stay silver. Are those O.Z Rims your WRX is rolling on? I took mine off my Wings West accord. Also, do any of you have any answers to my questions above? I doubt any of you read them . Shame .

The amount of primer necessary depends on how well it covers. I never count how many coats of paint I spray. Is the primer covering all the detail? Is it a uniform color or is any of the underneath color showing through? Generally one or two coats after you've achieved a uniform color is what it takes to get it thick enough to work properly. If it's Tamiya primer, it'll be smoother than automotive primer and it goes on in much thinner coats. I hear Plastikote sandable primer is some of the best automotive primer if you can't find Tamiya.

For the best results it is always good to polish primer as smooth as possible with either polishing kit cloths from about 2400 grit to 3600 grit, or with automotive wet sanding paper from 600-1500 grit. No liquid polish, just fine sandpaper to polish the surface smooth. The smoother your primer, the smoother your color coats. Even Tamiya primer should be polished if you want as smooth a color coat as possible, then you spend less time, sand off less paint when polishing the final color. Tamiya primer can usually be polished smooth in just a couple of minutes. If you sand through the primer in a few spots, you'll need to respray it, and pay careful attention to the areas you sanded through, so that next time you won't sand through it. Avoid sanding on raised details and any sharp edges. It takes practice and patience.

You may very likely need to practice all of this stuff a few times before getting the hang of it and good results. We all learn by trial and error and usually many mistakes. I've learned a lot...

:hehehe:, I hope the body will have a bit more of a shine than that photochopped picture .

I like the wheels, you should keep them on there.

It looks pretty good, although you should of painted the Chassis.

Is it going to stay spoiler-less?

I just ordered some tamiya compund. And i'm gonna shine it up real nice. As for the exhaust tip, ill make it soon. Th*e damn muffler is molded to the chassis, so i cant put a custom one on because i don't want to ruin it while cutting it off. It'll eb enlargged with a straw tip.

*Oh and the photoshop image is flat blue because i colored the primer and it has no shine!

I wet sanded it......with one coat of paint on.....i know what your thinking.........don't want to hear it either. I have to put on now another coat. Anyone know how to use the tamiya compound>? Do you need a clearcoat? Or can you just put it overr the paint?

Tamiya Compound (in a tube) is just a cut and polish. You can use it straight over the paint or over clearcoat. The safest way is to use it over clearcoat, because you would cut through the clearcoat first.
