Re: Whats your bike?

For road I have a Cannondale 2.8 Aluminum set with aerobars and swift-shirters. I'd like to get into mountain in the near future.

The $1700 Trek is a 8000, they're not heavy, but they're also not super light.
My 8500 which has the same frame as the 8000 tops the scale at 21 lbs, the 8000 is only a little heavier.

Re: Whats your bike?

I just got a 2006 Specialized Stumpjumper in blue. It's got full (front and rear) Fox suspension, Shimano Juicy 5 brake and gear set, Specialized tires, and Wineco platform pedals (instead of the normal clip pedals that come with it. Both the front and rear brakes are hydraulic disc brakes. This purchase put a gaping hole in my pocket at $2100, but it was worth every penny. For anybody looking for a top of the line downhill mountain bike that is good for riding anywhere you want, this is the bike for you!

Cool Kona by the way, Toksin

Re: Whats your bike?

I love bikes. All my road bikes are vintage, mostly because I like well-preserved older machinery. My fleet includes:

1982 Gitane Interclub, bought new,

1978 Peugeot PX-10

Dawes Galaxy, (early '70's) Retro chrome and orange paint.

Kuwahara Touring - This is a superb early-80's Japanese bike, too bad very few were sold in North America.

My mountain bikes are both modern Raleighs. Imo they are reasonable (for mass market department-store bikes that is), except for the totally feeble front forks. I don't want to get anything better because of the risk of theft. Around here, you can't lock up a nice bike in public downtown and expect it to be there later

Re: Whats your bike?

I restored my 1976 Raleigh Super Course last winter. Stripped her down, sand blasted the frame and repainted. I originally bought it with my income tax return of $225 in the bicentennial year. It still has no Japanese or Chinese parts on it except for the saddle and the handle bar tape. Hand made Reynolds 501 alloy frame from Nottingham England, Super Champion wheels from France, Weinman center pull brakes from Germany, Swiss ball bearing crank and wheel hubs and Huert derailures from France. It's a real nice ride with a touring geometry which is nice for a tall guy like me, the only real problem is that the maximum pedal cranks I can use are 170 mm and I occasionally hit the ground with those while cornering. I lost 15 pounds this year by getting back in the saddle.

Re: Whats your bike?

^^ Nice bike. Lovely paint job.

Your parts combination is a lot like my Dawes......Handmade English steel frame, Weinmann alum brakes, French gearsets, bars and steering head, with French SunTour derailleurs

Thanks, I photographed the original lettering so I could fully restore it but I kinda like it the way it is. '70 retro color and chrome tipped forks like your Dawes. We call them Brady Bunch colors.
