Question $40,000 for a 2002 Saleen?

I am being offered to buy a 2002 Mustang Saleen with less than 100 miles for around $40,000 from a local dealer.

I really want to buy the Cobra SVT; however, the dealer is not coming down on their mark up, although they did take it down from $48,000 to $43,000. I just can't see paying that much for one when dealers in Texas, Florida, and Arizona are selling new Cobras for around $35,000.

Anyways; if I can get the dealer to come down to a price more like $38,000, do you think I should take it?

They are offering a Metallic grey coupe. I told them absolutely they had to get me a red one. He will let me know tomorrow at 10 am PST.

What have you heard about Saleens and the prices they are going for. Do you have any internet sites listing the Saleens for cheaper??? I would be truely and utterly greatful.

Steve.

$43,000 for a new Cobra???? That's insane!!!!!!!!!!! I thought there were going for $35,000 or so? I would much rather a Cobra then a Saleen. You are pretty much paying for the name "Saleen" when you buy it. I would see if you can locate a Cobra somewhere else that's reasonably priced first, all thought Saleens are nice!

I would wait untill next year, to pick one up. Thay way it would be much cheaper, and probably could pick one up with less then 5k miles. I wouldnt pay the money to line the pockets of the dealers, the markup is crap.

I would be truely and utterly greatful. You can have one shipped for around 800 dollars or it would be worth the drive to just go get one. I am in ohio and Kistler ford in toledo is asking 36400 for a cobra not bad I found one on the internet used with 900 miles on it for 33000. Check the net for used ones, its worth it.

look on ebay and autotrader.com and other similar places. 40k for a 2002 saleen is a joke. Ive seen 2003 cobra going for below MSRP.

$43K not that insane

paying $43K isn't that insane for a Saleen---if you are talking about the 2002 that comes with the Eaton blower. If so----thats a good buy----as long as that car comes with the max/grip differential rear end. If that car is equipped like so---then you have a good buy on your hands. The 03 Cobra looks better---but at $43K with the mods I spoke of---thats definetely a good investment. A couple of minor tunes---and you can run with a Viper or Z06.

When it comes to a "cool" car in my opinion, the first thing I do is think of American made. Reliability, I think of Japanese vehicles. I am just not into a modified Japanese car.

Plus the value of a Mustang or Camaro will hold better than the foreign competitors.
