Exclamation 1990 beretta gt 3.1L transmission question!!!

the car goes through all 3 gears, but at 55mph the RPMS are high. like there is no cruising gear. what is the problem? and the transmission fluid smells burnt.

I would get three estimates at transmission shops for repairs.

Just a shot in the dark....if you have just purchased the car etc. maybe check to see if previous owner had unplugged the TCC solenoid, which would explain the car running at a bit higher rpms...When the TCC goes bad the car will stall in low gear so people unplug them, but engine will run higher rpms than before. If this has just started then yes, get it to a shop for a checkup.
