'81 Deville 368 engine noise
I have a noise in front of the engine that kind of sounds like a bad bearing. It's not any of the accessories. I can remove all of the belts and it still makes the same noise. I put a new distributor in it recently. It quiets down some when I put it in gear. Is there anything it could be besides the front main bearing? The engine is the 368 V8, engine code 9.

From here a noise is tough to give advice on, I was a Cadillac field troubleshooter when those cars were new, lots of issues but not with the engine itself. Sounds like a bad bearing knocking or a rotating bearing grinding? Are you sure it is not from the torque convertor area?

Re: '81 Deville 368 engine noise
I won't get to looking at it for a couple of weeks. The car is located about an hour from where I live. I thought the noise was at the front of the engine. But, I did have a little transmission fluid under the car, which I thought was dripping from the transmission pan. It wasn't much, the fluid level is ok. I'll do some checking in a couple of weeks. Thanks for your reply maxwedge!
