Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans 1998 1:43

Hi everybody, I'm brand new as writer in this forum, but I've followed several times fantastic threads.

I'm italian and apologize for all language mistakes I'll write from this very first post.

My model is in 1:43 scale, BBR kit. Porsche 911 GT1 winner Le Mans 1998.

My usual approach is to modify the kit and make it opeable: I mean it can be displayed fully open as well as completely closed.

So, I'll make myself the engine, all the suspensions, the front and some "upgradings", generally speaking.

I'm guilty of starting shooting the wip from the painting, so for this wip no cutting, puttying ...

This is the model closed...

... and open

The doors (see wires for opening system)

Following step is making the front air conveys, made by brass sheet and putty

see referrals

Great job you have done in opening the panels, I bet that is no easy job, especially on the doors! Anyway, I will be following this thread!

Re: Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans 1998 1:43

Next steps:

Seat modification (see real one)

I've made the yellow reinforced tissue parts in the lower belts and the pull handle (in white) (see reference)

Other parts for the inside (electronic switches)

The aileron and its upper support

Then, a painted of matt black where needed

I'll cover almost all the black parts with carbon fiber decal.

I've closed on the bottom the front air conveys with plasticard

Then I've made the rear diffusor with plasticard and the kevlar details with kevlar decals

Re: Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans 1998 1:43

It took me a long time and work to cover everything with carbon fiber decals, then I passed working on the front

Both sides of the front have been reinforced with 1,5 mm thick plasticard as each of it must be structural to fix all suspension arms.

I then passed colouring wires with different diameters to create springs

Here is the front almost finished ...

... Thers's still missing the front grid which is in construction

Re: Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans 1998 1:43

I've added a higher carbon/kevlar part on the front to complete cover the air conveys: see detail in comparison to previour version.

And I've made and fixed the suspension arms too

Re: Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans 1998 1:43

Here are the wheels, turned to make 'em empty to be inserted on the suspension arms: I'd say well done!

The inner part will be used to fix the brake discs and the wheel itself.

I've produced the right brake discs thikness through a plasticard

Then I've drill'em out (OK) and tried to drill them in their thickness to simulate cooling holes (no OK). The drill it's too quick and it melts the plasticard: I'll try with another technic.

Finally I made the brake cooling holes with an electric wire, wrapped with a very small diameter copper wire and then covered with Teflon.

Re: Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans 1998 1:43

Here I'm again, but I need some help.

I've painted the engine/gear with Alclad aluminium and titanium

These are the images I've got for the rear

As you can see, no images of the exhaust pipes.

This is the engine of the previous version (1997): in '98 are the pipes in the same position?
