95 jetta celebration edition
bought a 95 jetta with A LOT of miles on it. 256 to be exact. instantly took it in for oil change and tune up.. it did not pass smog so i have the converter replaced. passed with flying colors at 45 mph, at 15 mph the nox was 30 under the legal limit to pass. luckily. The oil light has been blinking except when i push in the clutch. once the clutch is pushed in the oil light turns off. A couple times in 2 months the check engine light comes on and the car feels like it is starting stall out... then speeds up... then puts a little... etc etc etc. eventually it stops and runs fine... oddly enough that light then does not come up unless at higher RPM's. I am aware this in turn is not fixing my issue, but I am just stating everything I can think of to get the best diag I can. My guesses are fuel filter, fuel pump, or perhaps a loose line?

Re: 95 jetta celebration edition
somehow, i think you mean 256 THOUSAND miles.. to be exact and all.. am I right?
since you mention nox, i imagine you're in california? thanks for that learning btw.. ![]() does the oil light come back on when you let off of the clutch? on highways? does it ever come back on once the clutch has been pressed once? I'm still going to suggest sensors as your primary issues.. Now I'm a Jeep person mind you, but sensors like the TPS (throttle position sensor) and the MAS (mass airflow sensor) are fairly common across makes and models now a days.. I still recommend looking at those sensors as a primary culprit.. Being as that you have a 15 year old car, and odds are that those sensors have never been replaced and that sensor lifespans can be anywhere from 2-20 years depending on driving conditions, you're right at the REPLACE IT mark.. buy one sensor at a time, see if it fixes it, and return what you don't need.. or not. the odds of a true mechanical failure a pretty slim these days.. but the next most common thing i've ever run into is the head-gasket.. this happens when the car overheats to the point that the gasket breaks or more commonly, the head itself warps and in either case it loses its seal, allowing oil to travel into coolant (thus causing significant overheating and 'muddy' coolant-it'll blow out, or see it from the radiator cap..maybe?? hard to tell sometimes) or coolant into oil (thus causing foamy mocha latte colored oil-see it from the dipstick.. true) or much steam or straight water /without the AC on/ coming out of the tail-pipe.. DO NOT EVER BUY ANY HEAD-GASKET REPAIR LIQUID PRODUCTS!! if you already have these symptoms.. They can clog up radiators in a flash.. same goes for radiator repair solutions.. aka, stop/bars leak.. just saying.. it's like putting a .5W resistor on a 1W line.. haha.. restrictions should be expected and coolant needs to FLOW. In any case, glad you're here man.. here's hoping some REAL VW TECHS come in and help to diagnose.. Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? And FYI.. The more info you give accurately, the easier it is to diagnose from afar.. (keep notes) ~Good Luck Brother.. |
