no fuel to carb

I have a 350M G30 1982. I have fuel in the gas tank and a new fuel pump, 2 lines to the tank and one to the carb and a new carb (Rochester). The only thing I haven't done is drop the gas tank. I can't get gas to the carb. I disconnected the line to the carb and still nothing coming out of the fuel pump. Anybody have an idea?

Disconnect the line to the pump try and get some pressure into the tank with an air hose see if the fuel comes out at the pump line, careful here of course. There is a filter on the pick pipe in the tank on most GM cars/trucks that may be an issue.

Re: no fuel to carb

If I understand you correctly, I'm going to force air into the return line and that should force gas to flow out the delivery line at the fuel pump. Makes sence. I'll try it.
Thanks

It should force some fuel out of the delivery line.

I haven't had a chance to try that yet. What does this indicate if I don't get anything out of the delivery line?

Re: no fuel to carb

Assuming you can hold some pressure in the tank, clogged filter in the tank or a blocked line. You have to block the vent and return line to do this.

Re: no fuel to carb

You were so right. The fuel line has a "tee" for the fuel going to the generater. The line going to the generater had two leaks for sure but probably more. The rubber line about 12 feet long was very hard and very cracked. Never even entered my mind. The pressure not only brought fuel to the pump but it was squirting out the leaks as well. Automotive Forums does it again!
Thanks

Re: no fuel to carb

My 1 ton van has a egnerator and the fuel line to it had become hard and cracked. When I pressurized it the line to the generator gushed fuel. I have since replaced the line and all is good.
