1999 3000GT vs 2000 Firebird

Which is faster stock, both automatic, and which has more room for improvement through cheap upgrades?

Firebird V8 or V6?

personally, i like the 3000gt more. It is a Very fun car. The Firebird is more old school, and is more of a muscle car than a sporty coupe.
The VR4 has a lot more room for improvement and is cheaper.

I strongly disagree. Assuming you are talking about the v8 model firebird, it comes with the ls1. It makes more power than the mitsu, lots more torque, and parts are everywhere. The mitsubishi is overly complicated, parts are out of production, hard to come by and expensive, and with all the electronics and two turbos the car will be much higher maintenance.

That being said, I personally think the vr4 is sexier. But it will be a lot less expensive to build and maintain a firebird than a vr4.

The firebird is in no way "old school" and has literally nothing in common with the firebirds of old.

On a race track, the Firebird would be faster on the straights and the Mitsubishi would be faster through the corners. So they're evenly matched.
I agree that the with the amount of electronics the Mitsubishi would be harder to maintain, but the fact it being Japanese, you probably wouldn't need to worry much about it.
The Firebird is an all out GM muscle car. If you think a 'Tuner' is great, believe me, a 'Muscle' car always has presence.
'Tuners' are fun little toys with great performance.
'Muscle' cars always have a sense of drama about them. They love to shout it out with their V8 rumble. It always makes a statement.

So the question is this. Do you want a fun little toy? Or something that will get you noticed??
