Put the frame on jackstands, and the axle on a jack. First, take the shocks off and get em outta your way. Then, take the caliper off so you don't break a brake line (not joking, I know its a play on words, but do it), and hang it aside. Support the axle on the jack and jack it up just enough to take the tension off the spring. Take the bolts out holding the top of the spring to the tower, and the bolts holding the bottom to the twin beam housing, then let the jack down slowly until the spring is completely tension free. Just reverse it all to put it back in when you are done, except stay to the side of the wheel wheel and make sure the spring attaching hardware is on before you compress it at all. If you are careful it is really no big deal, just respect it and you will be fine. I have seen guys get careless and let me tell you, compress them and let them come out and it is violent to say the least....

"take the caliper off so you don't break a brake line ... and hang it aside"
Make sure you use some wire or string to hang the caliper. Do not let it hang by hose. |
