Brake fluid leak at master cylinder

Hey guys, first off, my truck is an 02, but it is a salvage titled truck, so I have no idea if it is an 02 mc or not. I have a leak around the threads on the rear line from the mc to the abs module. I shined a light into the fitting(yes, it is a fitting, not part of the mc casting), and can't see anything wrong with the seat. I also cut the flare off that was one it and put a new double flare on the line, it still leaks.
Short of putting on a new mc and line, what can I do?
Is it supposed to be a bubble flare and not a double flare or something? Its not a stream, just weeps, then it gets down to the rotor and pads a makes a lot of noise, sounds like a log truck, not a nice truck
Not a big leak though, more annoying than anything, top off mc once a month or so, I drive 2 to 3 k a month usually....

Re: Brake fluid leak at master cylinder

SOOO, heres the deal. Apparently its right, 1 1/4" bore like it should be for my truck too. Problem is, that Ford shows nothing about the fitting, Napa and Autozone's cylinders need the fittings in them, replacement will not fix it, I need the fitting, that is whats leaking. Have to hope the scrapyard has it, just don't have time to go there until atleast Friday.

Double flare, female side on left side. Bubble flare, female side in the middle. (not exact picture for your vehicle)

USUALLY domestic vehicles are a double flare. Looking inside the hole, you should see a cone shape with the center pointing at you for a double flare and a recessed cone for a bubble flare.

Re: Brake fluid leak at master cylinder

It will be blatently obvious then. It was a double flare when I cut it off and remade one. Never looked up into the fitting. I will get a picture of it. I am pretty sure it is supposed to be a double flare, but am not 100% positive. I have night class tommorow after work, so I won't be able to do anything then. I will just run to the bone yard Friday after work and see if I can pick up the fitting and the line in question for cheap.

I went to Ford to try and investigate the problem a little today. A new line is $88.00!!!!! They don't call out the fitting seperate, maybe you get a new one with it, or maybe they want you to use the old one too.....

Thanks for the clarifications, as an aside though, is that a photoshopped picture or is that one master cylinder with all that combo of fittings?

Re: Brake fluid leak at master cylinder

Alright guys here the update....
I went to the bone yard and found one from a 2000.
Mine is 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel abs, so it had to be too...
I found one at the bone yard to work, the fitting I found is about 1 1/4 inches long, but the line is shorter....Mine had a fitting that was maybe 1/4 inch, but the line was longer, so fits the same, but is a little different, long story short; bone yard line and fitting and had wife pump the brakes and bled all 4 bleeders, brakes work fine and don't leak now. I will clean it all up and get the noise to stop where brake fluid was getting on the left front brake rotor and pads. I don't think it will come back with the leak gone, we'll see, pretty annoying, sounds like metal to metal, but I cut the squeakers off and it has brand new pads on it, so...
