Re: 1990 rivera a/c blows hot

what do you mean : a/c ok? Is compressor functioning properly?
Even though the system is full of freon, if the compressor is dying it might not work up to its full abilities.

Do you hear the air ducts switching/moving inside the dash?

Re: 1990 rivera a/c blows hot

My 1995 Riviera has a similar malfunction. All blowers work but the driver side vents blow cold air while the passenger side blows hot air. I have been told that an 'actuator' may be stuck. Does that sound right to you? Is the cost worth the expenditure on a 1995 vehicle?

Re: 1990 rivera a/c blows hot

WHen I had my problem (chill air from passenger's 4 front vents and vented air to the rest of the car), I had been told by every person most likely the problem is the actuator, the ducts or whatver.

It turned out to be something completely different, ac compressor - as weird as it sounds.

So once again, listen for the air passageways and the ducts.... take the dash appart if you have to. (5 min job if you done b4)

Determine if the problem is with the actuator, ducts and or the covers with block air fomr the ducts. If its not that and the temp different in air is a significant one.... I say its a compressor.

I havent done anything with mine until the clutch on my AC compressor gone bad so replacing it was a must. Junk yark one fixed not only the griding noise which the broken clutch made, but also fixed the cold air

Re: 1990 rivera a/c blows hot

I am having the same problem w/1990 Buick Riviera. A/C worked great, then had to use heater one night - that worked fine, now a/c no longer working and just blows hot air. Heater still working o.k. Any suggestions on what to check?
